2011 Grammys Best Dressed

Maybe I'm meant to wait for the Oscars for the UL-TIMATE red carpet fashion moments,
because for the most part, the Grammys this year was a little - meh.

Before I say I'm disappointed, I wanted to break down my 6 five looks from the Grammys.
Despite my big frown by the end of the show, I still thought some of the looks were blog-post-worthy! And..uh..Lady Gaga wasn't one of them.

1. Rihanna

I always picture Rihanna as the tough girl-next-door, but for this year's Grammy's she went to appeal her feminine side- and while keeping the risky style she's so well known for! I love how sexy/provocative yet feminine/glamorous she looked in this just-off-the-runway Jean Paul Gaultier gown. Choosing white was smart, especially when Rihanna's sporting fire-engine red hair that couldn't have looked better with the dress. I wonder how she pulls it off: leaving very little to the imagination yet keeping it classy.

2. Katy Perry

I am no fashion risk-taker myself, but I admire Katy because she's exactly the opposite. Katy Perry wore Armani this night, and looked ethereal. Have you ever heard of a sexy angel? I haven't- until now! I think she chose the cropped bra top and the shiny elongated skirt to flatter her figure. And then the bra top just had to be bedazzled with jewels and she just had to add those angel wings- just because it's Katy Perry and she doesn't want to go for the tradtional dress-and shoes-and-clutch bore.

3. Heidi Klum

Heidi looked like a goddess- no literally, in form of a statue in this gold Julien Macdonald gown. This look was beyond perfection with the deep back cut and the dainty shoulder detailing that showed off her amazing shoulders and arms. Then it's Heidi Klum, so her amazing body just had to be a bonus contributing factor, don't you think?

4. Kim Kardashion

My, my, the hottest reality star is here. Now, to be perfectly honest, I don't even know why Kim Kardashion keeps showing up to the GRAMMYS and the SAG AWARDS when all she has running for her is...Keeping Up With the Kardashians? With that said, I still love Kimmy- no really, and her entire family including Rob and Mason and the whole deal. I think sometimes she goes a little off for red carpet fashion, because she fails to dress to flatter her figure. (e.i. a strapless Marchesa gown that flows straight from bust to toe? Great for Nicole Riche but disastrous for Kim K.) She's not a stick-skinny model, so she needs a very specific kind of dress with a specific kind of cut. And a custom adjusted bust and booty size. But I think Kim nailed it at the Grammys with this gold Kaufmanfranco gown that huged every inch of her curvy body. Then there's the signature hair and the bronze-goddess-looking makeup and the nude pumps you never go wrong with. Good job.

5. Nicole Kidman

I gasped both out of fear and relief when I saw this gown- AFTER I saw Rihanna's. The same designer, same collection, and ALMOST the same design. phew! If she had worn the same gown as Rihanna- I don't even want to think about it, it's too painful! Anyhow, I loved Nicole's version of the Jean Paul Gaultier gown. Of course, this multi-colored one suited Nicole's skin tone far better, and the design of it (being completely covered in the torso and peek-a-boo exposed towards the legs) fit Nicole's demure and elegant style far better. So, good choice! I like how she added minimal jewelry to this extravagant gown, and her golden locks were simply flawless as usual.

6. Selena Gomez

Selena's so young and sweet, but I'm amused and even impressed by the several red carpet looks she's been pulling off over the past couple of weeks. Not bad, not bad at all! At the Grammys Selena channeled sexy yet age appropriate with the- wait for it- J. Mendel metallic gown. The girl is not only cute but has similar taste as I! This could opt for a good mermaid moment in my book. I like how the only "skin" she's showing is a tiny bit of cleavage and her arms. And then I love the champagne and white diamond earrings. A+!

I think I should say that no, the Grammys fashion wasn't entire bad, but I think it could have been better. But then there's still the Academy Awards and ...the OSCARS!!!

The Best Dressed lists shall continue..

Intro: 2011 Golden Globes Best Dressed

Hello, world!
So in the midst of struggling to make a scrapbook of fashion inspiration images taken from magazines, I, for the 1231234th time in my life, realized how unskilled I was in drawing/cut&pasting/labeling...leave those to the gifted artists- I am a writer for crying out loud! So then I decided since writing IS my cup of tea, I shall create a blog on my own (I've always been a big time blog follower myself) and maybe use this as my own source of an "electronic" scrapbook- recording all my inspirations and such. Sounds good to me!

So... I was trying to think what could make a good starter post, and it rung in my head- red carpet magic! (So you'll notice I use certain words over and over...and over i.e. magic, genius, fabulous, and more magic) Award season is here, and I usually skip through the nominations and go straight to the red carpet run-through. I was a bit skeptical of this year's Globes (I remember last year's rainy weather that ruined the spirit for me) but I was proven wrong (pleasantly!) Okay, enough of the ramble and here's MY outlook on the glitz and glamor.

Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie
I know...I know... You've probably seen Angie hit every magazine and blog's "Best Dressed at Globes" list, but I just HAD to include this glamazon into MY list! Angie always makes red carpet fashion look like a piece of cake- and this year's Globes was no exception to her effortless beauty! Jeweled tones are the upcoming trend for S/S 2011, and can you just LOOK at that sparkle on the one-of-a-kind Atelier Versace gown? As for her makeup- not too much, not too little. Her skin is porcelain and flawless as usual, with a little emphasis on her dark eyeliner and lashes. Her hair is - as usual, again- tossed in effortless loose waves. The structured shoulders and unexpected long sleeves make this look......wait for it- magic. No wonder Brad Pitt is so in love...

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johannson
So Scarlett may not be on the top of every Best Dressed list, but in my list, she's a treasured favorite! It may just be a biased decision because her dress- and look altogether- epitomizes my personal taste on the red carpet- sparkles, frilles, chiffon detailing all scream for my name! This dress is so figure flattering to Scarlett, with the slightly plunging neckline, flowy sleeves and sinched waist. I am so in love with this ultimate princess number (remembering my fashion orgasm when Cameron Diaz had her princess moment at the 2010 Oscars) and Scarlett could not have looked more dazzling. Her perfectly pale skin seems to blend right in with the cream colored gown- UGH! amaaaazing.

Leighton Meester
Leighton Meester
I am a slave to Blair Waldorf- but I usually despise Leighton Meester's personal style with a passion (with an exception of a handful of looks I can remember- but you see, every true fashionista should have so many amazing looks that you shouldn't be able to remember all of them anyways.) But this year's Globes renewed my love for this lovely girl. I don't know if it's, again, my personal style (everything girly, lacy, etc.) being biased but this girl nailed it with the long-sleeved trend and the cream colored Burberry Prorsum gown that fit her very, very well. The gathered puffed sleeves and the slit that revealed just enough: perfection. What caught my eye was the Louis Vuitton gold clutch:
LEIGHTON MEESTER
And her Jimmy Choo platform sandals!
LEIGHTON MEESTER
IMO, Leighton redeemed herself completely.
I will be awaiting for another magical moment at another awards season, Ms. Blair!

Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway
How could I ever leave Ms. Anne out of my list? I shall say I love the long-sleeved trend as much as the stars do. This sparkling- and breathtakingArmani Privé gown was just too perfect for words! Her hair, her makeup- and her famous smile made this look complete- with no other accessories necessary!

Sandra Bullock
Sandra's dress started my most recent designer obsession for Jenny Packham. Personally, I think she (Bulock-not Packham ahahah) should be with Ryan Reynolds, but that's another post of celebrity gossip I would have to write. The one-shoulder detail, the sparkling beaded dress, the perfectly cascading train, and the bedazzle to go with the gown:
SANDRA BULLOCK
all prove that Sandra's looks better single! Seriously.

Okay so that ends my belated list of the best dressed stars at the 2011 Globes. I am delighted to see color, sparkle and just plain beauty return to the runway, and I can't wait for the SAG Awards now!

Oh, and other praised looks including the looks of Natalie Portman, Lea Michele, Jennifer Lopez, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams all had something missing (once again, IMO) that didn't qualify for this list...(this may be my little disclaimer)
